Peat for blueberries and other acid-loving crops

Unlimed white Sphagnum peat at pH 3.5 to 4.5, screened coarse for pots, bags and long-term containers.

What matters

Acid, and it stays acidNatural peat carries no lime, so it stays at pH 3.5 to 4.5, the range blueberries, cranberries, rhododendrons and azaleas need.
Coarse keeps the airThe coarse white grades keep more air in a container than the fine ones.
You set the feedingNo fertiliser is added, so the nutrient level is yours to set.

Questions growers ask

Which peat should we use for blueberries?

Unlimed white peat at pH 3.5 to 4.5. Code 141 at 0-40 mm is the usual base substrate for planting two-year-old blueberries. 140LV and 140W run the same fraction, and 124LV at 20-40 mm is the coarser option. None of them are limed, so the acidity blueberries need is already there.

Can the substrates be used in organic farming?

Natural peat moss with nothing added is authorised in organic production for use in horticulture: it is listed in Annex II of Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/1165. The limed base substrates also carry a wetting agent, and the organic mixes are made to order on organic slow-release fertiliser. Whether a product fits your system is decided by your certification body, and SOLVIKA holds no organic certification. Tell us which scheme you work under and we will send the specification to check against it.
